Tower Bridge – Needle Gun

This video clip from the 27th July 2010 shows a needle gun being used to remove defective coatings from around the rivet joints under the East Walkway of Tower Bridge.

The needle gun uses an electrical current to rotate needles at varying speeds against the metallic surface to slowly chip away the numerous layers of paint and rust.

We shot the original footage in high definition.

The first stone of Temple Bar is dismantled

Another important date was added to the history of London’s most famous gateway, when the first stone of Temple Bar was carefully dismantled on 13 October 2003.

The first stone of Temple Bar is dismantled
Each stone is numbered and placed on a pallet which is covered with protective softening. The old mortar which was used to fix the stones into position is removed by the stone masons. The pallets are then lowered by a fork lift truck and then shrink-wrapped before being selectively placed within the compound of the site.

The upper chamber of Temple Bar

It’s difficult to conceive in its dilapidated and graffitied state that this was once the room where Lady Meux is believed to have dined with the Prince of Wales, Edward VII and Winston Churchill.

Harris Digital Productions recorded the dismantling, restoration and rebuilding of the Temple Bar Gateway for the City of London Corporation.

The new cage for the Monument

One of our favourite parts of recording the major restoration to the Monument was the installation of the new viewing platform cage on 11 October 2008. This video shows a section of the new balustrade being lifted to the viewing platform.
